Motivate Your Donors on GivingTuesday
Updated: Nov 18, 2019
GivingTuesday, on Dec. 3, closes out days of frenzied shopping unleashed by Black Friday and Cyber Monday. It’s a day when people across the globe show their caring and concern for others.
For nonprofits, and many for-profits, it’s one of the most exciting days of the year for philanthropy.
We’re sharing our top three strategies for building more support before, during, and after GivingTuesday.
1. Rally your supporters around a goal
Tell your supporters your goals for GivingTuesday and how they can get involved. Donors and friends will embrace the goals you set if you involve them.
Current supporters have already given their time and money; they know and like you. Now is the perfect time to ask them to act on your behalf. Ask for feedback on your goals; ask them to share your Giving Tuesday campaign with their friends and family. They’ll be thrilled that you asked.
2. Prepare your content
Be sure to plan how to best support your champions with images, social media posts, and email templates. Create a persuasive and friendly cover email they can send to potential donors they know.
Make it as easy as copying and pasting. They’ll appreciate your planning and organization.
3. Help people feel good and have fun
Giving should be fun and invigorating. No matter what your cause, you can always find a way to make people feel good. Here are just a few ideas on how to bring the fun this GivingTuesday:
Feeling like your cause needs some momentum? Try a #GivingTipsTuesday user-generated campaign: ask your social media followers to contribute their tips having to do with your cause or offer examples of your own every hour.
Post a fun challenge—like a tongue twister—that people can record themselves doing in honor of your cause and GivingTuesday.
Post images or video testimonials from people who have given to, or who have benefitted from, your organization
Take some time to plan your campaign, then roll it out early and plan to post often to keep your followers energized. Your creativity and spirit will be noticed!
